BLESSING OF THE
SEEDS AND SOIL

(A procession of children or adults, for example officers of parish organizations, singing hymns and carrying seeds and soil in small decorated baskets to be placed at the Communion railing for blessing. The farm and city people might bring seeds and soil (soil from lawns, gardens and fields, seeds for garden and fields) and as they come to church, place same in containers at the front of the church.)

(After the procession)

P. And other seeds fell upon good ground, and yielded fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixtyfold, and some thirtyfold.

PSALM 64: 10-1

All: You have visited the land and watered it;
greatly have you enriched it.

God's watercourses are filled;
you have prepared the grain.

Thus have you prepared the land,
drenching its furrows,
breaking up its clods.

Softening it with showers,
blessing its yield.

You have crowned the year with your bounty,
and your paths overflow with a rich harvest;

The untilled meadows overflow with it,
and rejoicing clothes the hills.

The fields are garmented with flocks,
and the valleys blanketed with grain.
They shout and sing with joy.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
R. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be /world without end.

Amen.

V. And other seeds fell upon good ground, and yielded fruit,
some a hundredfold, some sixtyfold, and some thirtyfold.

HYMN TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

Come, Holy Ghost, Creator blest,
And in our hearts take up Thy rest.
Come with Thy grace and heavenly aid
To fill the hearts which Thou hast made,
To fill the hearts which Thou hast made.
