Dear members of the Mystical Body of the Most Holy,
The month of May is upon us. It is such a beautiful month, when everything starts to bloom in a rainbow of colours and shades.
Over and above the seasonal beauty of nature, May is the month when millions of individuals show appreciation towards their loving mother for their past, present and future achievements and efforts. Most countries celebrate this feast on May 10th.
While we love to give recognition to our earthly mother, we also honour our spiritual mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, she who is celebrated throughout the entire Church during the month of May. During this special month, many devotions of the faithful are dedicated towards the Blessed Lady who had done so much for mankind.
Most of us are familiar with the spiritual uplifting devotions to Mary such as the "Regina Coeli," the Rosary, the Litanies of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Consecration and Entrustment to Mary, the Brown Scapular and other Scapulars, the distribution of medals, the "Akathistos" Hymn and the Litany of Loretto. All of these praises rise to Heaven to fulfill the prophecy, "For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed." [Lk. 1:48]
During the month of May, as in every other month of the year, a feast of Mary is celebrated every day. To name a few, Our Lady of Loretto in Ancona, Italy is celebrated on the 9 th, Our Lady of Fatima on the 13 th, Our Lady of France on the 15 th, Our Lady of Tears in Spoletto, Italy on the 17 th, Our Lady, Help of Christians celebrated throughout Europe on the 24 th, Our Lady of the New Jerusalem on the 25 th and the Feast of the Visitation that is celebrated by the Universal Church in its liturgy on the 31 st.
As the Mother of the Church, the Blessed Virgin Mary is an example to all, as well as a guide and an inspiration to all those who seek to humble themselves as servants of God and man. Through the refining fire of the Holy Spirit, these zealous souls move forward to produce fruits that direct all towards the Lord Jesus, the Son of God.
