Monthly Newsletter of May, 2014.
(Issue # 169)

Dear members of the Apostolic Church,

This month, I would like to share with you the beautiful email that Catholic Doors Ministry received from Bishop Alex Vadakumthal on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 10:23 AM. Bishop Vadakumthal is the newly appointed Bishop for the Diocese of Kannur, India, the mission that Catholic Doors Ministry has been supporting financially since 2008.

The content goes as follows:

Subject: With heartfelt gratitude from the Diocese of Kannur, India.

Dear Jonn,

It was Rev. Fr. Antony Pius Edezhath, one of our good priests, with whom you have had contact since some time, who gave me your email id.

After the transfer of my predecessor, Bishop Varghese Chakkalakal to the Diocese of Calicut, on February 1, 2014, Holy Father Pope Francis appointed me as the Bishop of Kannur.

(Note: The Diocese of Kannur has been without a Bishop since May, 2012 when Bishop Varghese Chakkalakal was transferred to the Diocese of Kannur. Since then, he has been over-seeing the Diocese of Kannur until the new appointment in March, 2014.)

The episcopal ordination was on March 23, and since I am new to this area, my priority has been to visit all the parishes within two months, and I hope to meet that target by May 23rd, since there are only 6 more parishes for me to visit.

Though I wanted to write to you earlier, somehow I just could not, and I hope you will excuse.

Sincerely I appreciate the work of the Catholic Doors Ministry, and in a special way for your assistance to Fr. Pius by way of Mass stipends.

Be sure of my prayers for you and your collaborators. May the Good Lord continue to shower his abundant blessings upon all of you.

May I request your prayers for this mission Diocese of Kannur.

with cordial greetings, I remain,

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Bishop Alex Vadakumthala

Over and above being informed of the episcopal ordination of the new Bishop for the Diocese of Kannur, Fr. Antony Pius, Catholic Doors Ministry's contact person for the aforementioned Diocese, has received his new transfer within the Diocese. Effective June 8, 2014, Fr. Pius will be ministering at the Diocesan Cathedral as a Parish Priest and Vicar Forane of Kannur. He has also been appointed as Director in charge of the retired priestsí home and as Manager of a Lower Primary School there. His new assigment involves a very big parish in the Diocese where all the Regional and Diocesan programs are conducted. That means that his schedule will be very busy, nothing like his previous work on the Estate where he oversaw the farming crops as a source of revenue for the Diocese.

During the next month, let us unite our prayers for the needs of the Diocese of Kannur, for the spiritual success of Bishop Alex VadaKumthala as the new shepherd of our Catholic brothers and sisters in India and for Fr. Antony Pius in his new appointment at the Cathedral.

May the grace of God shine aboundantly on the Diocese of Kannur, India.
