(Issue # 165)

Dear members of the Church,

While the Catholic Church looks healthy on the outside, something is killing the Church on the inside. I am not talking about the scandals of abuse, nor about the priests who fall short of their calling, nor about the Catholics who's lives are not becoming of their calling. I am talking about the divided Body of Christ. Like cancer, the Church appears healthy on the outside, but on the inside, it is terribly sick.

Jesus prayed to God the Father to protect the ministers of the Church, that they may be one, as the Father and the Son are one. [John 17:11] In the beginning, the Apostles were united as one to the glory of God. In time, ministers of the faith, dissatisfied with their calling for whatever reason, elected to divide the Church rather than reconcile the differences that wounded the Body of Christ. Consequently, such division created hatred among the divided groups. Such is not love.

"Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." [1 Corinthians 13:4-7]

As Catholics, we have been sent forth as beacons of love in the world. Our words and actions should be a reflection of the words and actions of the Lord Jesus. If Jesus would not do it, we should not do it. Then, and only then, will we become one Body in Christ as it was intended to be.

In the infinite love of Jesus,
