Monthly Newsletter of July, 2013.
(Issue # 159)

Dear members of the Catholic Church,

As you must all be aware, Pope Francis just completed his trip to Brazil for the World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro. During the weekend of July 27-28, 2013, his message to the young people was to rebuild the Roman Catholic Church. At the same time, he challenged the clergy to leave the comfort of their churches and take to the streets.

This message echoed the message of Pope Benedict XVI, who on September 21, 2010, established the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization. For over a decade now, the message from the Vatican has been to re-evangelize the West that has fallen away from the faith.

The message to evangelize is repeated annually in the Roman Catholic Church. "By the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed." (Catechism of the Catholic Church # 1285)

How many times must it be said that when you received the Sacrament of Confirmation, your Bishop sent you forth to spread and defend the faith by word and deed. This messages seems to have fallen upon deaf ears.

The words of the Popes, over and above the Sacrament of Confirmation, echo the Divine Words found in the Gospel of Mark, Chapter 16, Verse 15, where Jesus said, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation."

Why do we sit back and do nothing when Jesus commanded us to spread the Good News? Are we ashamed of Jesus? Are we ashamed of being Catholics? It sure appears to be that way! How often do I get an email from someone who would like to thank Jesus or Mary for an answered prayer, but they do not want their name made public? How often does someone sign the Guest Book, praising God, but they do not want their name mentioned? It happens all the time! And when people are ashamed to witness in public, I refuse to publish their unsigned comments.

Now is the time to go forth and to trust in the power of the Holy Spirit to guide you in the service of the Lord. Now is the time to tell your relatives, be it your children or your brothers and sisters, to stop living in sin. Why? Because if you remain silent, you are guilty of their sins. Your silent is a sign of approval! If you do not approve of their words and deeds, speak up!

Let us pray for each other, that we may find the strength to finally obey Jesus' command to go forth and spread the Good News. May Jesus bless your soul aboundantly with all the spiritual tools that you need to minister in His Most Holy Name.
