Monthly Newsletter of October, 2012.
(Issue # 150)

Dear creations of God,

When presenting his Apostolic Letter "Porta Fidei" on October 11, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI declared that the "Year of Faith" will begin on October 11, 2012 and end on November 24, 2013.

October 11, 2012 commemorates the 50 th anniversary of the opening of Vatican II and the 20 th anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

During the special Year of Faith, Catholics are encouraged to study and reflect on the documents of Vatican II and the Catechism of the Catholic Church so that they may deepen their knowledge of the faith.

The Year of Faith began on October 11, 2012 with a Synod on New Evangelization. The New Evangelization is a personal call to each and every Catholic to deepen their faith, have confidence in the Gospel, and possess a willingness to share the Gospel. It is also a call to each Catholic to share his/her faith with others.

As stated on the website of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, "Every baptized Catholic is called through baptism to be a disciple of Christ and proclaim the Gospel. The Year of Faith is an opportunity for each and every Catholic to renew their baptismal call by living out the everyday moments of their lives with faith, hope and love. This everyday witness is necessary for proclaiming the Gospel to family, friends, neighbors and society. In order to witness to the Gospel, Catholics must be strengthened through celebrating weekly Sunday Mass and the Sacrament of Reconciliation."

During the month of November, let us all consider our role in the "Year of Faith." Now is the time to determine what christian responsibility we are prepared to undertake in order to promote the Catholic Church in word and in example.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. [Phil. 4:23]
