KNOWN AS: "Prepare For The Great Tribulation And The Coming Era Of Peace"; etc...
ALLEGED SEER: John Leary.
LOCATION: In Rochester, NY, USA (Originally from Greece.)
YEARS: 1993 - Present
ITS PROMOTION: Through public talks and the publishing of over 12 volumes that detail the messages.
STATUS: July 7, 2000, on behalf of Bishop Mathew H. Clark, the diocese announced:
1) That John Leary had mistaken the "normal workings of the mind in the processes of mental prayer for supernatural locutions."
2) That the "locutions" are human in origin, not divine.
3) That a Preface must be included in all newly printed or reprinted material, such warning the readers that the material contains a number of doctrinal errors
ALLEGED REVELATIONS: Among other doctrinal errors, these two have been identified as opposing the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church:
1) Millenarianism: Some of the printed manuals allege that Christ will return to reign on the earth for a thousand years at the end of time. Regarding this false doctrine that has been around since the first century, the Catechism of the Catholic Church states:
# 675 "Before Christ's second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers. The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the "mystery of iniquity" in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo -messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh."
# 676 "The Antichrist's deception already begins to take shape in the world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope which can only be realized beyond history through the eschatological judgement. The Church has rejected even modified forms of this falsification of the kingdom to come under the name of millenarianism, especially the "intrinsically perverse" political form of a secular messianism."
2) Anti-papalism: "Mr. Leary's locutions select Pope John Paul II to be obeyed but his successor to be ignored as an 'imposter (sic) pope.' This erroneous teaching is found throughout all of Mr. Leary's published work.
The suggestion to oppose the leadership of the Pope as the spiritual father of the Roman Catholic Church contradicts the teachings of the Catechism of the Catholic Church as follows:
# 937 "The Pope enjoys, by divine institution, 'supreme, full, immediate, and universal power in the care of souls' (CD 2)."
# 939 "Helped by the priests, their co-workers, and by the deacons, the bishops have the duty of authentically teaching the faith, celebrating divine worship, above all the Eucharist, and guiding their Churches as true pastors. Their responsibility also includes concern for all the Churches, with and under the Pope."
# 100 "The task of interpreting the Word of God authentically has been entrusted solely to the Magisterium of the Church, that is, to the Pope and to the bishops in communion with him." Article 3"
# 3 "Those who with God's help have welcomed Christ's call and freely responded to it are urged on by love of Christ to proclaim the Good News everywhere in the world. This treasure, received from the apostles, has been faithfully guarded by their successors. All Christ's faithful are called to hand it on from generation to generation, by professing the faith, by living it in fraternal sharing, and by celebrating it in liturgy and prayer. [Cf. Acts 2:42]"
# 2034 "The Roman Pontiff and the bishops are 'authentic teachers, that is, teachers endowed with the authority of Christ, who preach the faith to the people entrusted to them, the faith to be believed and put into practice.' The ordinary and universal Magisterium of the Pope and the bishops in communion with him teach the faithful the truth to believe, the charity to practice, the beatitude to hope for."
Anyone who possesses, reads or believes the erroneous teachings of John Leary undertakes the risk of endangering his faith and consequently losing his soul.
This published work promotes total disobedience to the supreme authority of the Holy Catholic Church, leading the faithful to believe that the 'alleged' messages of John Leary have a greater authority then the spiritual leadership of the Pope. Such a belief can lead to division within the Church, disharmony, disrespect for the Pope and a number of other sins associated with such an attitude.
Furthermore, this published work serves the Antichrist purpose of leading the faithful towards the false hope of a "Millenarisnism." When the Holy Bible states that Christ will reign for a thousand years on earth, this is a symbolic number that represents the period of time from the glorious Resurrection of the Lord Jesus until the day when the physical world will come to its end.
The blessed hope of the Catholic faithful is to persevere in faith, hope and love in the present "invisible" Kingdom of God that is progressively growing on earth since the institution of the "visible" One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Through the Sacrament of Baptism, the faithful receive their new creation and the indwelling Holy Spirit, this qualifying them for the adoption of the sons and daughters of God who will receive their salvation through Christ for the inheritance of the eternal Kingdom of God. Through the Sacrament of Baptism, the faithful worship God in spirit under the reign of Christ the King who's Kingdom has already arrived on earth, His Divine Presence being found in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist..
