Frequently Asked Questions
regarding
THE WEDDING RING
OF BROTHERS AND NUNS.

Q. 1. Why do brothers and nuns wear a wedding ring? Is it symbolic of something since they are not married?

A. 1. Based on Luke 1:43, Mary, all-virgin, is the Spouse of the Holy Spirit. "And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me?

If Mary was not mystically and spiritually married to the Holy Spirit, then she would have committed fornication as a single person.

The wearing of a Wedding Ring by those in the religious life is symbolic of their mystical and spiritual marriage to God. For that reason, if any of them were to have sex with someone, they would be committing adultery as a married person.
