Q. 1. What is the association between Saint Nicholas and Santa Claus?

A. 1. First of all, the name Santa Claus originates from Sinterklaas which is a Dutch form of Saint Nicholas.

St. Nicholas was a 4 th century Greek Bishop of Myra, which is a city now located in Turkey. He was renowned for his generosity

It is alleged that the hanging of stockings at Christmas is associated with the awaiting of the kindness of St. Nicholas. It is said that he anonymously tossed bags of money into the home of three young women who's family lived in such great poverty that they had turned to prostitution to survive.

Since the end of the 11 th century, the relics of St. Nicholas, stolen by Italian sailors, are now located in a Dominican Church in Bari, on the southeast coast of Italy.
