Frequently Asked Questions
regarding
THE MEANING OF THE PHRASE
"AGNUS DEI."

Q. 1. What is the English meaning of the Latin phrase "Agnus Dei?"

A. 1. "Agnus Dei" means "Lamb of God." These words are found in John 1:36 in the New Testament of the Holy Bible. It echoes the words of John the Baptist who exclaimed "Ecce Agnus Dei!" which means "Behold the Lamb of God!"

These words echo the innocence of Jesus who was to be sacrificed as the Sacrificial Lamb for the sins of the world.
