Frequently Asked Questions
regarding
THE RITE OF COMMITTAL.

Q. 1. Can you tell me, what is the "Rite of Committal?" What is the person being committed to? Is it a religious Order, admission to the faith, the hospital, etc...?

A. 1. The Rite of Committal is associated with the Catholic Rite of Christian Burial. It is the final part of the ceremony at the graveside where the body is laid to rest.

This is the moment when family and friends are gathered to take their final leave, when the body is committed to the ground in the hope of the resurrection.

While this is a very simple Rite, it is the most meaningful. This is when we come to realize that the basic truth of our faith and death take their place side by side. Our living hope is the glorious resurrection that awaits all the believers, such being achieved through death.
