A. 1. The Jewish people have 613 commandments. These are found in the Torah, a collection of 5 books whose names in English are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The Torah contains both, the written text and the oral tradition. The Commandments are divided into 365 negative restrictions and 248 positive commands.
