Q. 1. I heard that Satan has different names. What are those names?
A. 1. The following names of Satan are found in the Holy Bible:
The Devil: "The the devil took Him (Jesus) to the holy city and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple..." [Mt. 4:4] "The the devil left Him (Jesus), and suddently angels came and waited on Him." [Mt. 8:11]
The Serpent: "Now the serpent was more crafty than any other wild animal that the Lord had made..." [Gen. 3:1]
Day Star, son of Dawn: "How you have fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low!" [Is. 14:12]
Lucifer: "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, who didst rise in the morning? how art thou fallen to the earth, that didst wound the nations?" [Is. 14:12] Lucifer is found in the older version of the Holy Bible, more specifically in the Latin Vulgate. Modern translations have changed the word "Lucifer" for "O Day Star" as seen in the previous Bible passage.
Man of sin: "Let no man deceive you by any means, for unless there come a revolt first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition..." [2 Thess. 2:3] This title is found in the Latin Vulgare Holy Bible. The title use in modern Bibles is the "lawless one."
The tempter: "The tempter came and said to him, 'If you are the Son of God, command these stones to beocme leaves of bread.'" [Mt. 4:3]
The god of this world: "In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." [2 Cor. 4:4]
The ruler of the power of the air: "In which you once lived, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient." [Ephes. 2:2]
The ruler of this world: "Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out." [Jn. 12:31]
A liar and a murderer: "Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot accept my word. You are from your father the devil, and you choose to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies." [Jn. 8:43-44]
Angel of the bottomless pit; Abaddon; Apollyon: "The have as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon." [Rev. 9:11]
The accuser of our comrades: "Now has come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Messiah, for the accuser of our camrades has been thrown down, who accusses them day and night before our God." [Rev. 10:12]
The adversary: "Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour." [1 Peter 5:8]
Angel of light: "And no wonder! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light." [2 Cor. 11:14]
Beelzebul: "But they said, 'It is only by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons, that this fellow casts out the demons.'" [Mt. 1:24]
Belial" "What agreement does Christ have with Beliar? Or what does a believer share with an unbeliever?" [2 Cor. 6:16]
The dragon: "Then the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bear a child, so that he might devour her child as soon as it was born." [Rev. 12:4]
The evil one: "I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I ask you to protect them from the evil one." [Jn. 17:15]
Power of darkness: "He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son." [Col. 1:13]
