Q. 1. We adopted a child. We are proceeding to have the child receive the Sacrament of Baptism. We are wondering if the adoptive father can be the Godfather since he is not the biological father of the adopted child?

A. 1. A person who is a biological or adoptive father or mother of a child is disqualified from becoming the Godparent of the child.

A biological parent who is not married to the other parent of the child is also disqualified from becoming a Godparent of the child.
