Q. 1. I hear people said to get involved in ecumenism. How can a person get involved in ecumenism when we really know that if anything will change, it is the Holy Spirit that shall influence that change. As humans, we cannot change how other religions think. Do you agree with me?
A. 1. I agree with you that if all religions are to become one, it is by the grace of God through the Holy Spirit. Only God can change the hearts and open the eyes of all to the truth.
But for this to happen, we have to open the door to the Holy Spirit. If we create barriers that stop the Holy Spirit from fulfilling the Divine Will, than all religions will never become one. Fifty years ago, there was a lot of hatred for those of other religions and vice versa. Today we work alongside one another, respect each other, and even pray together under certain circumstances.
To allow the Holy Spirit to move among us, there are three (3) ways that we can get involved in ecumenism. Those ways are:
• First of all, through prayers, as individuals and in groups, we must join Christ in His prayer “May they all be one… so that the world may believe that you sent me.” [Jn. 17:21]
• Secondly, What we can do together, we should do together. We should work with other churches in community projects, be it a lunch program, cleaning our district, helping in projects like Habitat for Humanity, and other projects that provides a need to humans.
• Finally, we must participate in dialogue with other christian communities. We must open our doors to each other in order to learn how each other prays, praises the Lord or worships God. We must come to the realization that they too believe in our God, but in a different way.
Once we have achieved the above, the Holy Spirit will enlighten the hearts to point out the errors that are being implemented in the name of spirituality. And that same Holy Spirit will motivate the hearts to change their ways in order that all may become one.
