Frequently Asked Questions
regarding
AN OCCASION OF SIN.

Q. 1. What does the Catholic Church mean by an "occasion of sin?"

A. 1. An "occasion of sin is a reference to either a "person, place or thing" which leads one to sin.

Examples:

person: a certain person is a bad influence. When hanging around with that person, you get involved in stealing.

place: when going to the bar, you get drunk and then into fights with other people.

thing: when you go on the internet, you are drawn to pornography.

If you can recognize the occasions of sin in your life, you can seek to avoid them so you will not sin.
